Texas Roadhouse Green Beans are one of my favorite simple side dishes. Cooked in a skillet with bacon, onions, chicken broth, and garlic make a simple and memorable side dish.

Green beans are a staple side dish in our house. I love to make my Green Bean and Bacon Au Gratin or Creamy Van Abel's style Green Beans, but this copycat recipe for Texas Roadhouse Green Beans is my all-time favorite.
If you have not had the pleasure of sampling these green beans at the restaurant you need to make them at home. Your taste buds will thank you, and it is so easy to make.
The reason I love these beans is that they have all the best flavors- sweet, salty, smokey, and savory. They always are always quick to be eaten when I serve the green beans to my family.
I also love that these beans are really versatility and can be served along side nearly anything as a side dish!
Ingredients
- Green Beans - Canned green beans are used to make an authentic Texas Roadhouse style green beans.
- Bacon - Bacon will make the recipe like Texas Roadhouse. You can use turkey bacon or diced ham as well, but the flavor will be slightly different.
- Chicken Broth - I like to use chicken brown, but vegetable broth is another great option.
- Onion- I like to use a white or yellow onion in my beans.
- Garlic- Garlic powder can be used as well.
- Butter– I prefer to use salted butter.
- Sugar- white granulated is what I prefer to use. I do not recommend powdered, but brown would be tasty.
- Black Pepper
Instructions
- Place chopped bacon in a large rimmed skillet on med-high heat until completely cooked.
- Remove bacon from pan and drain.
- Add green beans, bacon, chicken broth, butter, onion, garlic, and sugar to skillet.
- Bring to a simmer, and then lower heat to medium-low.
- Cover the skillet and let simmer about 10 minutes, or until green beans are tender.
- Serve.
Slowcooker Instructions
Texas Roadhouse Green Beans can be made in the crockpot. Add cooked bacon, green beans, butter, onion, garlic, and sugar to a slowcooker and cook for 2-3 hours on low heat.
Canned or Fresh Green Beans?
Canned green beans are used to make an authentic Texas Roadhouse style green beans. However, you could use frozen or fresh green beans. If you are using frozen, thaw them first. If you are using fresh blanch the green beans prior to following the recipe steps. Kale or spinach are also delicious in place for green beans to create a "greens" version.
I recommend canned for this recipe because it is the least time consuming. I also think the texture and flavor is true to the restaurant version. Fresh green beans are great, but make sure to give them a quick cook before following the recipe.

Do you use or discard the bacon grease?
Ashley Lecker
That is up to you. I have a can I store mine in, but it can be discarded too.
Kc Nelson
These were absolutely delicious and even better the next day!
Sharon Robinson
Can these be done in the oven?
Ashley Lecker
I have not tried them in the oven, but I would think so. I might make the bacon in advance so it gets crisp.
Lisa Tkach
Can I make these a day ahead and heat them up in a crockpot the next day?
Ashley Lecker
I have not tried that before, but I think it would be fine. I think the only thing impacted would be the bacon. I think it will be not so crisp. However, it will be fully cooked and I think the flavor will still be delicious.

Yum! And I just canned a bunch of green bean quarts! This will be perfect for them!
