My Copycat Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits are a delicious twist for the bread basket. Served warm and filled with garlic and cheddar cheese!

biscuits in a basket.

One of the best parts of the holiday meal is the basket of fresh bread or rolls. Coincidently, one of the best parts of Red Lobster are the Cheddar Bay Biscuits. I love the serve these garlicy, buttery, and cheesy biscuits whenever I get the chance.

The recipe is so simple and the biscuits go with anything from a chowder to a holiday meal. They are easy to prepare (and even make in advance) and always a crowd favorite.

You do not need any specialty bakery tools to make these. The recipe uses a pastry cutter, but a simple fork from your silverware drawer will work just was well.

The biscuits also freeze wonderfully. Simply freeze them on a baking sheet and then store them in a freezer sealable bag until you are ready to warm them and eat!

Instructions

For Biscuits:

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a baking mat. Set aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and garlic powder.
  3. Add the butter and use a pastry cutter or a fork to cut the butter into the flour mixture until you have small pea-sized pieces of butter.
  4. Gently stir in the shredded cheddar cheese.
  5. Add the buttermilk to the flour mixture. Stir till it is just combined. Do not over mix. If the dough is dry add 1-2 tablespoon of buttermilk. The dough should just hold together and not be too sticky.
  6. Place ¼ cup portions of dough on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake 15-16 minutes. The biscuits should begin to become golden brown on top. Remove from oven and prepare the topping.

For Topping:

  1. Melt the butter in the microwave. Stir in the garlic powder.
  2. Brush each biscuit with the butter. Allow the butter to soak in the biscuits and serve.
