One of my favorite supper club restaurants is Van Abel's in Holland Town (just outside Green Bay). They have the most delicious chicken, and serve these fantastic green beans. We have been going to Van Abel's since I was a baby, and these were always my favorite. My sister and I love these beans, and it is one of our favorite places.

My Grandmother had the green bean recipe, and we loved when we got to have them for dinner. I can't attest that this is the exact recipe from Van Able's, but it is the recipe my grandmother used, and referenced the restaurant. I also opt to use canned green beans for this recipe, mainly as a time saver, but you can easily cut and steam your own if you prefer.

This is a perfect recipe to keep in your pocket for your next holiday menu. The green beans have a creamy sweet and sour sauce, smokey salty bacon, fresh onions, and hearty green beans. The side is warm, comforting, unique, and a crowd pleasing side dish. I love that it is a little different than most green bean dishes, and compliments many main dishes.  Whenever I make this dish it always gets recipe requests.

We had the most incredible rain storm last night! I think we had over 4-inches of rain in just over an hour. There was lots of flooding, building down, debris, and power outages. It was a little unexpected because there wasn’t a lot of notice that it was going to storm. We were at a birthday dinner for our friends and got back just in time to grab the umbrella from outside. I should have brought the chairs in because they were strewn all over the place after the storm was over. I was a little worried because Rowan and Ron were at swim class, and hadn’t returned when the storm started. They finally pulled in the driveway, drenched, and the water in the parking lot at swim was just around shin level when they finally made a run for the car. There were parts of town that water was up to the top of people's cars. I know that is not as significant as the flooding in the southcoast area, but for us it is significant and it made me feel thankful that we didn't have any property damage.

I am so glad we can get these done in 20 minutes or less. We can't have the typical side dishes where I live, but we have all of these ingredients. There have been so many green beans at the market lately!

Green beans is such a tradition at Thanksgiving. You certainly give an interesting take on them -- we've never prepared or tasted them made with mayo. This is one dish we'll have to try.
