My Homemade Air Fryer Onion Rings and simple and delicious. Crunchy, well-seasoned, and a perfect summer side!

My husband and I love onion rings, but deep frying them at home can get messy. I love using my air fryer for homemade onion rings or onion rings from the freezer.

My recipe for Homemade Air Fryer Onion Rings is one of my favorites. The batter is light, crunchy, and salty. The onions are sweet and tender. I also love a side of ranch for dipping.

This recipe has a 10 minute prep and a 10 minute air fry. It is really easy and the results are so delicious. I like making my own batter because I can adjust the seasoning and flavors as needed. Sometimes, I like to use a little Cajun seasoning or a little Old Bay seasoning in my breading mixture for more flavor. We have also used taco seasoning before, I know it sounds different, but it is so good with a side of spicy ranch dressing.

These onion rings are also delicious on top of a grilled burger with a little bacon, cheddar, and BBQ!

Ingredients

  • medium onions- sweet onions or yellow onions are my favorite for this recipe.
  • all-purpose flour
  • paprika
  • seasoning salt - regular table salt works great as well.
  • pepper
  • large eggs
  • milk
  • toasted breadcrumbs- panko bread crumbs can be used, but it will have a flakier breading texture.
  • Cooking oil spray
  • Ranch, for dipping

Instructions

  1. Peel onion and cut it into ½-inch thick slices. Separate the slices and place them on a plate. Set aside.
  2. In a wide, shallow bowl, lightly beat the eggs with the milk and 2 tbsps flour until well combined.
  3. In a second bowl, combine the remaining flour, salt, pepper, and paprika. Place the bread crumbs in a third bowl.
  4. Dip each onion ring into the flour, then the egg mixture, and then dredge it through the bread crumbs. Repeat with remaining rings.
  5. Transfer the rings into the air fryer basket in a single layer. Don’t overcrowd the basket, and work in batches if necessary.
  6. Air fry at 390°F for 8-9 minutes. Serve hot and with ranch to dip.
