My Grilled Margarita Shrimp is a delicious appetizer for a group or an entrée. A simple marinate and a quick grill create a citrus flavored delicious shrimp recipe.

I love shrimp and grilling it is one of my favorite ways to prepare it. Shrimp cooks so quickly on the grill and the slight char to the shrimp is delicious.

Grilled Margarita Shrimp is a play on one of my favorite cocktails as a marinade for the shrimp. I like to use lemon and lime, a little agave for sweetness, and a little tequila in this recipe. I find to get the extra citrus flavor using a combination of zest and fresh juice is the best way to go. It is one of my favorite things to eat.

This shrimp recipe is great for 2 people as a hearty main meal, or it can be divided into smaller portions as an appetizer or even a topper for grilled steak.

Jumbo shrimp works best for this recipe, or even a little larger, because they are easier to maneuver on the grill versus a smaller shrimp. A smaller size is also easier to over cook.

The shrimp could even be placed on a skewer to grill as well, but I find with the larger shrimp size it is not difficult to move them around the grill.

Ingredients

  • raw cleaned peeled jumbo shrimp- I like to use jumbo shrimp when grilling because it does not overcook as easily.
  • lemon zest
  • lime zest
  • fresh lime juice - I do not recommend using concentrate for this recipe.
  • agave or honey - I prefer agave for the sweetener for grilled margarita shrimp, but honey works as well.
  • salt
  • tequila- this is optional, but I do like true margarita flavor it brings to the marinade.
  • olive oil
  • Lime and Lemon wedges for serving

  4. Remove from grill and serve the grilled margarita shrimp.
