4-Ingredient No Knead Crusty Bread. Flour, yeast, salt, and water are used to create the most simple and delicious french bread. The entire house smells like a bakery and you will not believe how easy it was to accomplish making your own crusty artisan bread at home!
Oh you know I am hopping on the homemade bread wagon with both feet ad a big smile on my face.
This recipe for french style crusty artisan bread is as easy as they come. No tricky methods, no guessing, no drawn out steps. A simple dough mix, a simple rest, and a simple bake. It is that easy my friends.
If you are like me rising breads felt a little intimidating to me, but with a little extra time at home these days gave me the push to start learning about baking bread. While I am certainly a novice, I can tell you that this recipe does not disappoint, and has given the the push to dapple in other types of bread making. This recipe also reminds me of the delicious crusty bread we ate while in France. I loved the bakeries and bread shops, and it is fun to revisit those flavor memories at home.
This delicious loaf has a lovely outer-crust, and the inside is so fluffy, light, and flavorful. I love it still slightly warm with a good smear of salted butter.... what is better than that!?
My tip is to follow the recipe, and be patient with the rise - it will pay off with a nice fluffy bread. Once you get the hang of it adding in mix-ins is fun- like cheese, pesto, nuts, or dried fruit!

- In a medium bowl, gently whisk together the flour, salt, and yeast. Slowly add the water and stir with a wooden spoon to allow the water to absorb and the dough to form. Cover with plastic wrap and rest at room temperature for 12-16 hours. I have found that 14 hours is the sweet spot for the bread.
- When ready to bake, place an oven safe dutch oven or baking dish with high sides into the oven and preheat to 450 degrees. Allow dish to warm in the oven for 30 minutes.
- Place dough on a well floured surface and use your hands to form a ball. Place the ball on parchment paper (make sure it is not too large of a piece because it needs to fit in the dutch oven), cover with plastic wrap, and allow it to rest for 15 minutes.
- Carve an "X" on top of the bread. Carefully transfer the bread on the parchment to baking dish and cover.
- Bake covered 30 minutes. Uncover and bake 10 more minutes until golden brown.
- Allow the bread for cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
I suggest serving this bread slightly warm with lots of salted butter. It is also perfect along side a main meal like my Weeknight Spaghetti with Meat Sauce, Copycat Sabarro's Baked Ziti, or Pepper Jack, Potato, and Bacon Soup.

So simple and easy- yet still delicious. Totally worth making bread at home if you can get your hands on yeast. I found some in the back of my freezer!

My dough was very wet and sticky all the way through this recipe. I was highly doubtful, I was sure it wouldn’t bake and I may have cursed at my dough ha ha. But my 11yo yelled “Trust the process, mom!” so we baked it, anyway.
Oh my gosh. This recipe is magic. It’s crispy with a thin crunchy crust, it’s soft and fluffy with a light, open crumb. The bake time was spot on despite the wet mess I created, and it came out absolutely perfect.
Trust the process!!! I will make this again and again, thank you!

It sounds like something my 11-year old would say!
