It is almost time for Shark Week and my family loves to tune into the Discovery Channel to learn about all things shark during the week.

I grew up loving shark movies, and programming, and as an adult I continue to love learning more about sharks.

However, no Shark Week viewing is without snacks. My Shark Teeth Snack Mix is a sweet treat to enjoy while you binge shark shows. What is more fun than a recipes for Shark Week- I love a good theme!

I drew inspiration from my Puppy Chow (or Muddie Buddies) recipe, and used bugels to make a yummy snack using chocolate and peanut butter. The bugles are perfect because once coated with powdered sugar they look like big white sharp teeth!

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO MAKE THIS RECIPE?

  • bugles
  • creamy peanut butter
  • chocolate chips
  • powdered sugar
  • red coated chocolate candies
  • jumbo sealable bags
  • microwave safe mixing bowls
  • airtight storage container

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I don’t like semi sweet chocolate- any alternatives?

Yes! Milk chocolate chips work well-as do peanut butter chips if you like a little extra!

Can I use a different type of cereal?

Hmmm…. my best answer is it depends on the type. However, change will not give the shark tooth visual result. I have tested with most chex and crispix. I have found that crispx works pretty well, but is not as sturdy as chex. If you have a specific question click “contact me” and I will do my best to help you.

How to I store this snack mix?

When the mix is dry, put it in an airtight container, and store on the counter for up to 2 weeks. If you live in an area that has high heat and humidity you may want to keep it in the fridge to prolong the shelf life.

HOW DO YOU MAKE THIS RECIPE?

Place the bugles into a large sealable bag so it is ready for the chocolate and peanut butter, set aside.

Place chocolate and peanut butter into a large microwave safe bowl. Microwave for 45 seconds and stir. Microwave for 20 second intervals until the chocolate is smooth. Allow a minute to slightly cool.

Pour the chocolate/peanut butter over the bugles, seal the bag, and gently shake to coat. Be very careful not to stir too vigorously because it will break the bugles. A few clumps of bugles are fine.

Before adding the powdered sugar make sure that the chocolate is not too hot. If it is still pretty warm allow it a minute or two with the bag open to cool. This will help the sugar not immediately be absorbed and will give a better powdered sugar coating.

Add the powdered sugar. Seal the bag and gently shake to coat. Add chocolate candies. Store in an air-tight container.

This is AMAZING! My kids would be over the moon with this. I might need to plan a sea creatures lesson so I have an excuse to make it - at least they'd pay attention with the promise of this little sweet 🙂
