My Snickers Apple Salad is not a traditional green salad. This type of salad is a retro Midwest style recipe where the term salad is used loosely. Packed with fresh apples and chewy nutty Snickers in light creamy vanilla pudding.
In the Midwest the term "salad" can be used loosely to describe creamy no-bake desserts. Sometimes the salads are referred to as "fluff" if there are marshmallows involved. My Snickers Apple Salad is a popular salad in my region.
Filled with apples, chopped Snickers, and caramel in a light vanilla pudding create a flavor that I can compare to a caramel apple. It is delicious any time of year and a perfect dish for a potluck when you are looking for something a little different to contribute.
My family loves a good no-bake dessert and this one is a favorite. We also love similar recipes like my Red, White, and Blue Cheesecake Salad, Grape Salad, and Cranberry Fluff Salad.
Ingredients
- cold whole milk - 2% milk works as well, but I prefer the creaminess of whole milk for this recipe.
- instant vanilla pudding- French vanilla, butterscotch, or caramel are great alternatives to try a different flavor.
- whipped topping
- Granny Smith apples- I recommend a tart firm apple for this recipe. Granny Smith works very well, but you can use any type of apple that you like.
- Snickers bars- If you prefer to use a candy bar that does not feature peanuts, I like Milky Way or Twix. If you like, you can make the salad with chocolate chips and roasted peanuts over using a candy bar as well.
- caramel topping- This is optional if you like a little extra caramel flavor.
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the milk and pudding mix for 2 minutes. The pudding will begin to thicken.
- Fold in the whipped topping into the pudding until well combined.
- Stir in 5 ½ cups apples and chopped Snickers. Make sure to reserve ¼ cup of the chopped Snickers for topping.
- Chill in the fridge at least an hour before serving. The salad can be chilled longer or overnight to allow the pudding to thicken.
- Remove from fridge when ready to serve. Top with remaining chopped apples and Snickers. Drizzle with caramel topping, if desired. Store in the fridge when not serving.
How to Store
Snickers Apple Salad can be made in advance and stored covered in the fridge. If you are making a day in advance you may want to wait to chop the apple topping to prevent brown apples. In my experience, the salad keeps for about 3 days.
