My Frozen S'mores are a perfect hot summer frozen treat. Chocolate fudge and whipped marshmallow flavors sandwiched between graham crackers. Make in advance and keep in the freezer- no campfire required!
S'mores are a traditional American summer time treat. Toasted marshmallows and chocolate nestled between two graham crackers.
I can't tell you how many time I have sat by the fire to try and get the perfect golden brown marshmallow. I am also not opposed to a little char on my marshmallow as well. I know the world of charred marshmallows on a s'more can bring up a lot of opinions!
My Frozen S'mores are perfect for any lover of this campfire treat, but in the form of a sweet cold treat. This recipe uses pudding to create frozen layers of chocolate and marshmallow for the ultimate summer ice cream sandwich.
Ingredients
- Instant chocolate fudge pudding- regular chocolate pudding works as well
- Whole milk
- Whipped Topping
- Graham crackers - I use the honey flavor
- Cream cheese
- Marshmallow creme
- 9x13 Pan
- Parchment paper
One of the main questions I get about Frozen S'mores is if they freeze hard, like ice cream. The answer is yes and no. The chocolate layer is firmer and the marshmallow layer is a little softer (like a marshmallow) because of the creme and whipped topping. It is texturally very pleasant and similar to a s'more.
Instructions
- Prep a 9x13 dish by lining it with parchment paper. Make sure that you leave a bit hanging of the sides. This will ensure that you can lift the Frozen S'mores from the pan easily.
- Prepare the base by adding graham cracker squares to the bottom of the dish. If the dish has rounded edges you can fit 12, but if it is square you likely can fit another row to create 15. If preparing 15, make sure you plan for additional crackers.
- Next, prepare the chocolate layer. Whisk together the pudding, milk, and ½ cup of whipped topping. Whisk till thickened and smooth.
- Spread the chocolate layer over the graham crackers. Place the s'mores in the fridge to set for 2 hours.
- Once two hours has passed, remove from fridge and prepare marshmallow layer. With a hand mixer, beat together cream cheese and marshmallow creme. Fold in the remaining whipped topping.
- Spread marshmallow layer over the set chocolate layer. Place remaining graham crackers on top. Cover with foil or plastic wrap and place in the freezer for 4 hours.
- Remove from freezer and use parchment paper to help remove the s'more from the dish. Cut into bars and use the graham cracker lines as a guide.
- Serve immediately or wrap each bar in parchment paper and place in a freezer sealable bag to eat when the craving strikes.
How to Store Frozen S'mores
Frozen S'mores are great to make in advance and freeze for later.
After cutting the s'more, wrap each one tightly with parchment paper or plastic wrap. Store in a sealable freezer bag and enjoy as desired.
