Servings 10 biscuits

Ingredients

Biscuits:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Butter Topping:

  • 4 tablespoon butter
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

For Biscuits:

  • Pre-heat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a baking mat. Set aside.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and garlic powder.
  • Add the butter and use a pastry cutter or a fork to cut the butter into the flour mixture until you have small pea-sized pieces of butter.
  • Gently stir in the shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Add the buttermilk to the flour mixture. Stir till it is just combined. Do not over mix. If the dough is dry add 1-2 tablespoon of buttermilk. The dough should just hold together and not be too sticky.
  • Place ¼ cup portions of dough on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake 15-16 minutes. The biscuits should begin to become golden brown on top. Remove from oven and prepare the topping.

For Topping:

  • Melt the butter in the microwave. Stir in the garlic powder.
  • Brush each biscuit with the butter. Allow the butter to soak in the biscuits and serve.

Notes

If preparing the biscuits in advance wait to apply the topping till ready to serve. Simply warm the biscuits and brush with butter topping when ready to serve.
