Sheet Pan Philly Cheesesteaks are an easy weeknight meal. Marinated thinly slice steak cooked with fresh peppers and onions. Topped with a creamy homemade cheese sauce and served on toasted rolls.
Who doesn't love a good sandwich? What makes my Sheet Pan Philly Cheesesteaks fantastic is the marinated steak and one pan cooking method. The steak can be marinated in the morning and comes together of an easy dinner that is ready in about 30 minutes.
I love to use a very thinly sliced steak for my sandwiches and make sure to keep the onions and peppers sliced thin so everything cooks evenly.
Serve the cheesesteak right from the pan on a toasted bun. I also like to serve a little cheese sauce on the side for dipping.
Ingredients
- thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin steak - Picking a good quality steak is important because it needs to be tender with even fat marbling so each bite of the Sheet Pan Philly Cheesesteak is delicious.
- Worcestershire sauce
- low sodium soy sauce
- black pepper
- salt
- onion powder
- garlic powder
- olive oil
- bell peppers
- Vidalia onion - white or yellow onions work great as well!
- butter
- flour
- milk
- American cheese - cheddar or jack cheese can be used, but American cheese creates a velvety smooth sauce.
- hoagie rolls
What Type Of Cheese?
Traditionally, a cheesesteak is made with a melted variety of American cheese. Other cheeses, like cheddar, swiss, jack, or provolone, can be used. However, for the gooey melty cheese sauce, American cheese works the best.
Instructions
- Place steak in a medium bowl. Add Worcestershire, soy sauce, pepper, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and olive oil. Mix until the marinate evenly covers the meat. Marinate, covered, in the fridge for 30 minutes- 4 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. Remove meat from the fridge. Arrange the sliced peppers and onions on the baking sheet. Evenly spread the meat and mix with the veggies so they are also covered in the marinate.
- Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 18 minutes. While the steak cooks, prepare the cheese sauce and toast the bun.
- To toast the hoagie buns, lightly toast them by adding a little oil to a flat-top or skillet. Split the buns lengthwise and toast the buns. Set them aside.
- To make the cheese sauce, melt the butter in a saucepan. Whisk in the flour. The mixture will become very thick. Add the milk and whisk as the mixture thickens, about 2 minutes. Next, add the cheese and whisk until melted.
- Drizzle the cheese over the sheet pan and serve on toasted buns.
