cooked pasta in the slow cooker

January is National Slow Cooker Month and I am celebrating with my Slow Cooker Chicken Cordon Bleu Pasta. An easy meal filled with chicken, smoked ham, and pasta in a creamy cheese sauce.

I love using my slow cooker and a one-pot slow cooker pasta dish is a favorite of mine. My Slow Cooker Chicken Cordon Bleu Pasta is one of my family's favorite meals.

I use shredded white meat chicken with thin sliced smoked ham cooked in a creamy delicious swiss cheese sauce.

This recipe could not be easier to make! Everything goes right into the slow cooker, including the uncooked pasta, and is ready in a few hours.

Ingredients

  • shredded cooked chicken - I typically with poach chicken and shred it. I always have some in my freezer. Rotisserie chicken works as well.
  • thin sliced smoked deli ham- I prefer thin sliced ham versus larger cubes of ham.
  • uncooked penne pasta - Different pasta shapes will impact cooking time. Smaller pasta will decrease cooking time.
  • chicken broth
  • whole milk - 2% milk is a great substitute in Slow Cooker Chicken Cordon Bleu Pasta.
  • cream of chicken soup
  • shredded swiss cheese - Mozzarella cheese or monterey jack cheese works well in place of the swiss.
  • black pepper
  • dried parsley - fresh parsley works well too.

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients except ½ cup of swiss cheese and dried parsley into a 6qt slow cooker. Stir well.
  2. Cook on low for an hour. Stir and replace cover.
  3. Cook on low for an additional 60. The total cook time is 2 hours. Slow cookers can run warmer and I advise to check the pasta at the 90 minute mark.
  4. Just before the pasta is done cooking, stir, and add the remaining cheese and dried parsley. Serve.

Cooking Tips

I have a few notes in the recipe, but will put the info here as well. Slow cookers can heat differently depending on brand and age.

When my Slow Cooker Chicken Cordon Bleu Pasta gets in the last 30 minutes it is recommended to check you pasta to prevent from being over or undercooked, or if it needs a stir.

I have made this many times, and had great results, but make sure that you keep an eye on the pasta towards the end.

Pasta Note: If you use a different type or smaller pasta it will impact cooking time.
