The Best Grilled BBQ Chicken Breasts can be achieved with a few simple ingredients. Using seasoned mayo makes the best and juiciest chicken. Everyone will ask what your secret is to the best grilled chicken ever!

Grilling is my favorite way to prepare our meals in the warmer months. I love the simplicity, the smells, and the nostalgic recipes.

I have the recipe for The Best Grilled BBQ Chicken Breasts you will ever have. The secret to the most tender, juicy, and moist chicken breasts is a simple seasoned mayo coating before grilling.

A simple seasoning, simple grilling method, and a brush of BBQ at the end makes the perfect summer meal. I typically serve my chicken with a seasonal grilled veggie and a potato or pasta dish- depending on the heat outside!

My kids, husband, and entire family request with recipe all the time. It is one of our favorites and my sister's most requested summer meal- with homemade corn risotto during the summer season.

Serve this your next family dinner, and everyone will be asking for your secret!

Ingredients

  • boneless skinless chicken breasts - chicken thighs works great for this recipe as well!
  • mayonnaise - mayo seals in the moisture to make The Best Grilled BBQ Chicken Breasts!
  • salt
  • black pepper
  • garlic powder
  • onion powder
  • bbq sauce - I love to use a smokey and sweet bbq sauce, but tangy works great too!
  • mixing bowls
  • grilling tongs

Substitutions

  • Boneless skinless chicken thighs work great in place of breasts. Chicken legs works great too, but you will need to adjust the cooking time.
  • Full-fat sour cream or Greek yogurt work well in place of mayo, but mayo has the best results.
  • For a little heat, add some cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the mayo mixture.
  • uncooked chicken on grill
  • chicken on the grill
  • chicken cooking on the grill
  • chicken brushed with bbq sauce on the grill

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together mayo, salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder.
  2. Add chicken to the bowl. Toss to evenly coat in the mayo mixture. Allow chicken to rest in the fridge for 40 minutes.
  3. After chicken has rested in the fridge prepare the grill. Heat grill to medium heat.
  4. Grill chicken for 5-6 minutes per side, or until the chicken's internal temperature reaches 165° Fahrenheit (75° Celsius).
  5. During the last few minutes of cooking brush the chicken generously with BBQ sauce on both sides.
  6. Remove from grill. Tent with foil and rest for 2-3 minutes. Serve.

Why Use Mayo When Grilling?

When grilling chicken, like my recipe for The Best Grilled BBQ Chicken Breasts, mayo is a key ingredient.

May helps evenly distribute the seasonings and keep the meat moist. With the moisture and seasoning locked in due to the additional fat in the mayo results in the most tender, juicy, and delicious chicken EVER. Marinating chicken with mayo is my favorite grilling trick!

Chicken isn't the only protein that benefits from a brush of mayo. Pork, beef, and fish stay moist and won't stick while grilling.

I never tried using mayo on grilled food, but don't know why not! It sounds great and I know it works wonders on baked food. So def on my to-do list.
