Chicken and Asparagus Stir Fry is a easy weeknight meal ready in under 30 minutes. Tender white meat chicken, fresh asparagus, and green onion cooked in a savory, sweet, and spicy sauce.
Dinner time is always a rush for my family on the weeknight. We do our fair share of trips to fast food for the kids on a busy night, but I love recipes like my Chicken and Asparagus Stir Fry because it can be made quick and it is delicious.
This recipe uses thin sliced chicken breasts, fresh asparagus, and green onion. I make a delicious sweet and savoy sauce with a touch of heat. It simmers quickly in a skillet and is ready in a flash.
This recipe is easy to customize as well. Don't like spice? Leave out the chili flakes. Like it a little saucier? Add some additional soy sauce. Not a fan of chicken breasts? Use chicken thighs, pork, beef, tofu, or plant based protein.
I love to use my favorite asparagus from Michigan Asparagus.

- green onions

- rice vinegar

Ingredient Questions
Can I use chicken thighs?
Yes, you can substitute any proteins in my Chicken and Asparagus Stir Fry. Sliced or beef is also delicious. I have also used tofu or plant based proteins as well.
How spicy is this stir fry?
It has a little bite, but nothing to much. However, if you are sensitive to spice leave out the chili flakes or reduce the amount. If you love spice, add more or a sliced pepper.
Can I add extra veggies?
Of course, the amount of sauce is measured with the amount of asparagus used. It will have less sauce to cover if you add more. I, personally, love adding broccoli, zucchini, or peppers.
Instructions
- Cut the asparagus into 1-inch pieces. Set aside. Cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces. Set aside.
- Heat oil in a large rimmed skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add chicken to the skillet and cook till no longer pink.
- While the chicken is cooking, make the sauce. Whisk together soy sauce, vinegar, hoisin sauce, ginger, garlic, chili flakes, sugar, and cornstarch.
- Add the asparagus to the skillet with the chicken. Pour the sauce over the chicken and asparagus. Stir to coat.
- Simmer until the asparagus is tender and the sauce has thickened.
- Plate with rice and sprinkle green onion on top.

- ¼ cup sliced green onions
- ½ cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 ½ tsps hoisin sauce
- 2 tsps ginger paste
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon red chili flakes
- 2 tbsps sugar
- 1 ½ tbsps cornstarch
- Steamed Rice
