Red Cabbage with Apples or Apfelrotkohl is a traditional German cabbage side dish using fresh red cabbage, apples, sugar, and apple cider vinegar. Simple to make and perfect for an Octoberfest menu!
One of my favorite side dishes to eat at a German restaurant is red cabbage. It is sweet, savory, tangy, and so delicious.
Red Cabbage with Apples or Apfelrotkohl is delicious with cooked bratwurst, pork, chicken, and even with German Potato Dumplings.
The red cabbage is so simple to make and freezes really well to eat at a later time.
My method for my favorite recipe is apple cider vinegar and a splash of apple cider to the pot of cabbage and apples. This is a great recipe to share for an Octoberfest style meal.
