My Blackberry Crumble Pie is filled with juicy berries and topped with a buttery crumble with a hint of cinnamon. An easy summer dessert using only 6 ingredients!

Blackberry pie with a crumble topping. Baked golden brown and in a red pie plate.

Blackberries are a favorite in our house and we typically eat them with no frills or extras. However, I love a crumble pie and make a very simple (only 6 ingredients!) crumble that transforms into a buttery, sweet, and delicious dessert.

This pie recipe is great to have because you can modify the type of berries you use and add other flavors (like lemon) to your filling. I am a big fan of simple and traditional, but Blackberry Crumble Pie is an excellent starting point for summer fruit crumble desserts.

You do want to make sure that you allow the pie to cool completely or it will become watery. It is important to slightly mash the berries to help combine them with the flour as well.

Ingredients

  • 9-inch Frozen Deep Dish Pie Crust- you can use a homemade crust, but I loe the simplicity of store bought for Blackberry Crumble Pie.
  • fresh blackberries- I do not use frozen for this recipe. You can, but you will want to thaw them and make sure they are free of excess liquid.
  • all-purpose flour- cornstarch work well too
  • sugar
  • butter
  • ground cinnamon- I love the extra flavor from the cinnamon, but it can be omitted if you prefer.

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 425°F.
  2. Place the pie crust on a baking tray or in a pie dish.
  3. In a medium bowl, add blackberries, ¼ cup flour, and ⅓ cup sugar. Gently mix together and lightly smash some of the blackberries so the flour can help thicken the juice as the pie cooks.
  4. Place berry mixture into the pie crust. Set aside to make the crumble.
  5. In a bowl, combine the butter and the sugar and stir till smooth. Add the cinnamon and the flour.
  6. Use a fork to mix the ingredients and create clumps of crumble.
  7. Spoon crumble over the blackberries.
  8. Place in the oven and bake for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, reduce oven to 350°F and bake for an additional 40 minutes.
  9. Remove from oven and allow to cool before serving. This make take and hour or 2, but it allows the pie to thicken.
