There is nothing like a big bowl of french onion dip. Make your dip at hme with a DYI Homemade Onion Soup Mix. Great for dips, marinates, and slow cooker recipes!

Onion seasoning in a bowl

Are you a lover of onion soup packets? I know that I am. However, I am always a fan of finding ways to recreate a homemade version with my DIY Homemade French Onion Soup Mix.

Most of these ingredients are likely in your pantry or spice cabinet at home, and it is great opportunity to use a few of the lesser used spices like celery salt and turmeric.

One of my favorite things when opening up on of these bags the store bought version or the homemade version is the smell. It reminds me of the delicious french onion dip we ate as kids to serve along side potato chips.

Onion soup seasoning mix is not just for dips- I love to use it in slow cooker recipes and grilling marinates as well!

HOW DO YOU MAKE ONION SOUP MIX?

RECIPE NOTES AND TIPS

  • Tumeric is a delicious and beautiful spice, but it can stain. Make sure you are rinsing bowls after mixing the seasoning.
  • Tumeric will give the dip the brownish yellow color, and is optional if you do not have it in your pantry.
  • Give the dip time in the fridge because it will allow the onions to soften.
  • Store the dip covered in the fridge between serving.
  • Add a little cajun seasoning for a spicy french onion dip!
