This recipe is delicious! It is full of tender ham, russet potatoes, chunky carrots, celery, onions, and, of course, peas. I use simple seasoning a little water and chicken broth to create a rich, hearty, and flavorful soup. Perfect for a cold night, or to use up an abundance of ham leftovers!

This soup could not come at a better time because it is so chilly in Wisconsin...not Polar Vortex chilly, but it is cold and this is the perfect way to warm us up. My kiddos enjoy this soup, but like the ham the best. I always know which portions belong to them because if there are leftovers all of the ham has been picked out.

I've never made this soup! I don't know even know why I haven't, but I need to fix that. Yours looks so yummy and I using thyme with ham. Delicious!

What a hearty and delicious looking bowl of comfort. I haven't made a ham and split pea soup in forever. I'll be making this one soon. Looks so good!

This would be a great way to use up leftover ham! Yum!

This soup lends itself so well to a slow cooker. Split peas are such a great and versatile ingredient and oftentimes, it's overlooked. I use them all of the time, but the best way is in soups just like this one! I'm curious, what type of ham did you use?

I normally use leftover smoked ham from a holiday, or I will buy ham steaks and I will cut them to bite sized pieces.

Yum! This reminds me of a crock pot recipe my dad would make with leftover ham. It looks so hearty, I'm really craving it on this snowy day!

I've made peas soup before with potatoes and I can tell it's so hearty and filling! Adding ham is brilliant! Who wouldn't want ham in their soup! I'm trying your version next time I make peas soup! Thanks for sharing

Wow! Another online recipe with 5 star reviews, BUT No one has actually made it! I made this today, I added 1 tsp liquid smoke, some minced garlic and pork tenderloin fillet bc that’s all I had. Turned out wonderfully! Next time I will not use chicken broth because it was just a bit too salty for us. Great, easy recipe, but highly disappointing that people leave reviews but have never made it?? Sure, I love split pea and ham too, I love ham without split peas, my family loves ham and potatoes, Do you get my point?

Have just begun the 8 hour countdown. Using ham bone. Not so sure about the thyme but it’s in there!!!
Ashley Lecker
It is really good with the herbs! You will not be disappointed!

Awesome cooking!

This was very good. I added some garlic powder and liquid smoke. Also took about 10 hours on low and needed the stick blender for a few pulses at the end to thicken it some for how we like it.

2nd time making this. I cut up salami instead of using ham and I omitted the celery, because I didn't have any. Last time i used water instead of any stock. Still turned out great. This time only used about 1 cup of stock and replaced the rest with water. We'll see in 8 hours if it turns out great again.
